    Default New processing thread

Is there a way on web applications to have the server run some code in the background while allowing the user to continue doing other things? I saw some info about creating new threads but it says that is only on desktop applications. I have some calculations and calls to other websites in xbasic that take time and I don't want the user to have to wait and just allow them to keep moving around the site. Is there a way to do this?

With work queues you can accomplish what you are looking for: http://wiki.alphasoftware.com/Work+Queue+V11

I use a different method. I use CRONTAB (Google that) to fire off processes on a schedule. It schedules A5W pages to fire which process records, etc.

    Thanks Steve,
    I will check out crontab.
I like the idea of running web pages automatically to run needed processes.
It would be nice to have the WAS have this ability built in.
Perhaps it's is to risky in the sense of runaway looping code bogging down the WAS.

Is it still possible to purchase your DBASE Shopping Cart for and old version of the framework?

    Elbee,

I returned the Cart_DBF to my Store at http://alphatogo.com, last item. But I am not very effective at supporting DBF these days.

    Steve,
    That is great..
On your website it says that the dBASE shopping cart is coming soon.
What is the current status? Has it arrived or is it still coming soon.
I basically need it to save me time on the coding for my own project which requires payment ability.

By any chance have you written anything that might work for credit card processing? Dbase / sql does not matter.
I know that Alpha has some kind of function to run credit cards with a large merchant processing center.
I thought perhaps you may have written another shopping cart to take advantage of this.
    Have you?

    Elbee,

It should not say coming soon... Basically if you want it, it is in the Store and I will take it back down after you purchase. I cannot effectively support DBF applications. But one here and there is ok. That Cart, like my current SQL-based Cart does credit card processing, but it uses PayPal as the processor. Some do not like that fact, and so I am working on Authorize.net as an alternative. The functions you are referring to are for Authorize.net, but I am not using those functions in my work. I don't use them because they are for processing transactions where the user enters the CC number in my application, and I want to be able to use Authorize.net's token method to allow the buyer to optionally STORE the CC information directly on Authorize.net so they can use that "CC on file" on the next purchase.

    Steve,
    Thanks for the update.
I will purchase it in the next few days.
    Thanks for doing that..
Any idea when the authorize.net module would be finished?
