Bonus TIPS for Successful Posting

Try a Search First
It is highly recommended that a Search be done on your topic before posting, as many questions have been answered in prior posts. As with any search engine, the shorter the search term, the more "hits" will be returned, but the more specific the search term is, the greater the relevance of those "hits". Searching for "table" might well return every message on the board while "tablesum" would greatly restrict the number of messages returned.

When you do post
First, make sure you are posting your question in the correct forum. For example, if you post an issue regarding Desktop applications on the Mobile & Browser Applications board , not only will your question not be seen by the appropriate audience, it may also be removed or relocated.

The more detail you provide about your problem or question, the more likely someone is to understand your request and be able to help. A sample database with a minimum of records (and its support files, zipped together) will make it much easier to diagnose issues with your application. Screen shots of error messages are especially helpful.

When explaining how to reproduce your problem, please be as detailed as possible. Describe every step, click-by-click and keypress-by-keypress. Otherwise when others try to duplicate your problem, they may do something slightly different and end up with different results.

A note about attachments
You may only attach one file to each message. Attachment file size is limited to 2MB. If you need to include several files, you may do so by zipping them into a single archive.

If you forgot to attach your files to your post, please do NOT create a new thread. Instead, reply to your original message and attach the file there.

When attaching screen shots, it is best to attach an image file (.BMP, .JPG, .GIF, .PNG, etc.) or a zip file of several images, as opposed to a Word document containing the screen shots. Because Word documents are prone to viruses, many message board users will not open your Word file, therefore limiting their ability to help you.

Similarly, if you are uploading a zipped archive, you should simply create a .ZIP file and not a self-extracting .EXE as many users will not run your EXE file.

I am using firefox 1.04 ... but I do not think it is a browser issue. I think it is a setting in the forum somewhere, allowing deletions for most recent attachment or something along that line. But then again, I know nothing about the configuration of this forum, so I cannot say for sure.

Edited: My user cp attachments did look like your Shawn, before today :)

2 check boxes now available :)

I now have 2 check boxes available. The attachment from my last thread here in addition to the one I mentioned in my earlier post.

I had to shrink my screen shot down so I could attach it :(

        check boxes have disappeared

The check boxes have now disappeared again. My guess is that it is a setting in the forum attachments somewhere.

I found solution .... if somebody at Alpha can do it for us

          I found the following:

ACP -> vBulletin Options -> Message Attachment Options.

Make sure the two options for deleting attachments are set to yes to allow users to always delete their attachments.

          http://www.vbulletin.com/forum/showt...dit+Time+Limit

Either that or allow us more space because I can no longer upload attachments to my posts :(

Re: Where are the help files for the forums?

I am bumping this post - it was the only thing that I could find on the forum.

I read the post, but still cannot find a way to delete attachments that I have posted.

Can anyone shed light on how to delete attachments to my posts?

I went to the user CP and went down to attachments but can see no way to delete any of them.

              Any suggestions.

Re: Where are the help files for the forums?

                Tom,

I believe there was a time (over a year ago) that you could do just that...but now they are permanent. Which in my opinion is the only way this messageboard will continue to be used as a help file of sorts. You will find MANY threads with instances of such attachments that were deleted by a user a while back and now these threads are deadends as far as having a solution.

If there is a real good reason for doing so I would imagine that contacting Alpha it may be arranged??? Dunno really.

Re: Where are the help files for the forums?

                  Thanks Mike for the reply.

I was not considering deleting any of my attachedments, I was asked that question in an e-mail and didn't know the answer.

I searched the forum and got this thread and thought I might was well try to get an answer.

I hear what you are saying with the dead end posts. The message board probably would not function properly without permanent posts and attachments.

                  Again, thanks for your reply.

                  Tom

                    Mike,

Best I can tell, there is a size limit on how many attachments we can have. If we were to reach that limit, then it would be an issue :)

Re: Where are the help files for the forums?

                      Hi Cheryl!!

I cannot find a limit but it must be fairly high if there is one as right now I have about 80 attachments that amount to 13 mb in size. Course I have only been on the board for a couple of years....

I would think that if the limit was ever reached by someone, something would have to be done...either increase the limit, archive the oldest,...or hopefully not, delete some of them -- which would be disasterous really to the messageboard's best use as a help file so in my mind is not even an option that should be given.
