Bonus TIPS for Successful Posting

Try a Search First
It is highly recommended that a Search be done on your topic before posting, as many questions have been answered in prior posts. As with any search engine, the shorter the search term, the more "hits" will be returned, but the more specific the search term is, the greater the relevance of those "hits". Searching for "table" might well return every message on the board while "tablesum" would greatly restrict the number of messages returned.

When you do post
First, make sure you are posting your question in the correct forum. For example, if you post an issue regarding Desktop applications on the Mobile & Browser Applications board , not only will your question not be seen by the appropriate audience, it may also be removed or relocated.

The more detail you provide about your problem or question, the more likely someone is to understand your request and be able to help. A sample database with a minimum of records (and its support files, zipped together) will make it much easier to diagnose issues with your application. Screen shots of error messages are especially helpful.

When explaining how to reproduce your problem, please be as detailed as possible. Describe every step, click-by-click and keypress-by-keypress. Otherwise when others try to duplicate your problem, they may do something slightly different and end up with different results.

A note about attachments
You may only attach one file to each message. Attachment file size is limited to 2MB. If you need to include several files, you may do so by zipping them into a single archive.

If you forgot to attach your files to your post, please do NOT create a new thread. Instead, reply to your original message and attach the file there.

When attaching screen shots, it is best to attach an image file (.BMP, .JPG, .GIF, .PNG, etc.) or a zip file of several images, as opposed to a Word document containing the screen shots. Because Word documents are prone to viruses, many message board users will not open your Word file, therefore limiting their ability to help you.

Similarly, if you are uploading a zipped archive, you should simply create a .ZIP file and not a self-extracting .EXE as many users will not run your EXE file.

Refreshing a Grid from List control selection

Giving it more thought. If we changed to a panel card layout ...

One of the options on embedded objects in a panel card is to refresh when the panel card gets focus.

That might be the easiest solution.

That is true Larry. I'll try rebuilding it with a panel card layout, with control bar at the top later tonight. Yeah, using the built in checkbox to refresh is quite a bit easier...

Re: Refreshing a Grid from List control selection

It does not work as expected. The "Refresh when panel card gets focus" says the only stipulation is that it needs to be inside of a Panel Navigator, but still does not refresh with new info.

There is also "Synchronize when panel card gets focus". It says only UX's can be used for that purpose. I created a list UX as an experiment to see if it was the embedded grid that was the issue. This does not refresh either.

I'm using a controlbar with SetPanelActive as the method used to move between panels. I've also tried using the carousel to change panels, and that does not work either...

Re: Refreshing a Grid from List control selection

Putting a list inside a UX inside an embedded window would probably not work - at best the panel would refresh the UX - not the list.

But if you move to a list, it doesn't have to be embedded - you can put it right on the same UX and refresh it any time you would like.

The whole purpose is that you like it as a grid so you can update the status and the assignment easily, right on screen.

If the refreshing is more important than the quick updating and you DO go with a list, you could put a button next to the status.

The button could pop up a window that would allow you to change just the status. It would be another click, but it would get the job done.

You could also put a status update field just outside the grid, click on the row to fill the status field, then update it and save. Again, one more click, plus some real estate, but it would do the job also.

Re: Refreshing a Grid from List control selection

So if the embedded grid is in a panel card and you have - delay render check and it is out of view because it has to be when the UX is loaded or it will show blank, then use a button click to view it will cause it to redraw-fresh as it comes into view. If you want it to be visible all the time then create a list control that you can really have fun with instead of a grid.

OR, you can set an auto-refresh on the grid itself using the action javascript builder in text mode search for refresh - OR you can put a button in the area above the records to allow the user to click a button and refresh the info when they want to, or even start an auto refresh - again via the action builder in text mode you can find these things.

            LOTS of options here.
Don't forget you can add most if not all of these grid methods to the client-side.

            In the grid just put
            {grid.Object}.autoRefreshStart(10000);
in the client-side OngridRender and watch the grid refresh every 10 seconds!
            very easy to do...

Yeah I already added the refresh button you're talking about. I'm kind of being a perfectionist about this. It would be most perfect to reload the grid at the point a new shift of employees are logging in, but a button will be good enough for now.

Like I said, you can run a refresh with no button click if desired.

I hope that was helpful, web sockets might be just what your looking for. Search the forum here and download the examples you find.
