Bonus TIPS for Successful Posting

Try a Search First
It is highly recommended that a Search be done on your topic before posting, as many questions have been answered in prior posts. As with any search engine, the shorter the search term, the more "hits" will be returned, but the more specific the search term is, the greater the relevance of those "hits". Searching for "table" might well return every message on the board while "tablesum" would greatly restrict the number of messages returned.

When you do post
First, make sure you are posting your question in the correct forum. For example, if you post an issue regarding Desktop applications on the Mobile & Browser Applications board , not only will your question not be seen by the appropriate audience, it may also be removed or relocated.

The more detail you provide about your problem or question, the more likely someone is to understand your request and be able to help. A sample database with a minimum of records (and its support files, zipped together) will make it much easier to diagnose issues with your application. Screen shots of error messages are especially helpful.

When explaining how to reproduce your problem, please be as detailed as possible. Describe every step, click-by-click and keypress-by-keypress. Otherwise when others try to duplicate your problem, they may do something slightly different and end up with different results.

A note about attachments
You may only attach one file to each message. Attachment file size is limited to 2MB. If you need to include several files, you may do so by zipping them into a single archive.

If you forgot to attach your files to your post, please do NOT create a new thread. Instead, reply to your original message and attach the file there.

When attaching screen shots, it is best to attach an image file (.BMP, .JPG, .GIF, .PNG, etc.) or a zip file of several images, as opposed to a Word document containing the screen shots. Because Word documents are prone to viruses, many message board users will not open your Word file, therefore limiting their ability to help you.

Similarly, if you are uploading a zipped archive, you should simply create a .ZIP file and not a self-extracting .EXE as many users will not run your EXE file.

If you configure your viewbox to look like a list similar to Selwyn's video "AA UX Viewbox Making A List" - Videos - Viddler and then set your list value ({Action} in the video) to {[count]} and then in the items tab of the viewbox builder set the onClick event to
    Code:
     var _D=this.data[v];
    {dialog.object}.setValue('JSONFORM_NAME',_D);
this will give you the object data needed to populate the Jsonform
As per attached crude but very fast example
    Thanks Lance for this example.

In another place of my application it would make much more sense to use a viewbox (B) in stead of a list ( list B)
At that place always only 1 record is showed. That record is selected in an at another list (say list A)

My problem is that I cannot find a way to read the value of a viewbox when the viewbox is never clicked at.

I played with the getValue definitions and event definitions of Viewbox B no luck at all.

    My use case:

I have a search-list A for selecting Relations. A has the primary key (relation-id) for list B, but not all the data for list B.

B has all the relation details, When selection in list A I perform a refresh on Viewbox B which is databound, and that works great. It gets filled very fast,

But how can I fill JSonFORM B with the editcontrols matching for Viewbox B without clicking on viewbox B.
Of course I can do an extra ajaxcallback to populate JSONFORM B, but that would be a really wast of speed and servertime...

Also I from other dependent components I would like to read the actual value of viewbox B. Also I for this I can ofcourse use a state variable or an argument.
But also that i consider less elegant that reading the key direct from a viewbox. All that is possible if I use a list B instead of a viewbox B.

So why bother? I measured the statistics
If do use the viewbox instead of the list, the published size of the component drops from 1425 to 1275kb, and load time decreases from 6 to 5,5 seconds. Enough for me seek help for this :-)

    Thanks in advance.

      Hi Ger,
I keep forgetting about my glaring deficiencies (I'm not artistic, and I'm painfully limited to American english).
With that said, I strongly believe ajax callbacks are evil, and except for the initial load, saving data, and potientially
accessing 3rd party resources, I avoid them, choosing instead to search the appropriate javascript array.
I do this often, and after avoiding javascript as much as possible for over a decade, I've started to choose javascript
over xbasic to perform my searches.
Getting the value of viewbox B is as simple as {dialog.object}.getValue('viewboxB'). Getting the rest of the data for the
chosen record involves a little more code, but is not too difficult.

I agree, and today proved for me once again: "when you are writing a lot of code to perform a little task, go back to design"

The solution was easy: forget list AND Viewbox.

        1. Make the jsonform databound.
        2. after selecting the record in the search list, I load directly the jsonform with ajaxcallback
        3. and from there I fill a few controls (inclusive Relation_ID) in an controlbar for display and for grabbing them in other childcontrols, all clientside...
(and ended up 50kb less again :)

I haven't touched my JSONform project for a while, but as I remember it, you shouldn't need to do an ajax callback to populate it.
I'll take a look at what I did, then see if I can replicate it with your project.
