Bonus TIPS for Successful Posting

Try a Search First
It is highly recommended that a Search be done on your topic before posting, as many questions have been answered in prior posts. As with any search engine, the shorter the search term, the more "hits" will be returned, but the more specific the search term is, the greater the relevance of those "hits". Searching for "table" might well return every message on the board while "tablesum" would greatly restrict the number of messages returned.

When you do post
First, make sure you are posting your question in the correct forum. For example, if you post an issue regarding Desktop applications on the Mobile & Browser Applications board , not only will your question not be seen by the appropriate audience, it may also be removed or relocated.

The more detail you provide about your problem or question, the more likely someone is to understand your request and be able to help. A sample database with a minimum of records (and its support files, zipped together) will make it much easier to diagnose issues with your application. Screen shots of error messages are especially helpful.

When explaining how to reproduce your problem, please be as detailed as possible. Describe every step, click-by-click and keypress-by-keypress. Otherwise when others try to duplicate your problem, they may do something slightly different and end up with different results.

A note about attachments
You may only attach one file to each message. Attachment file size is limited to 2MB. If you need to include several files, you may do so by zipping them into a single archive.

If you forgot to attach your files to your post, please do NOT create a new thread. Instead, reply to your original message and attach the file there.

When attaching screen shots, it is best to attach an image file (.BMP, .JPG, .GIF, .PNG, etc.) or a zip file of several images, as opposed to a Word document containing the screen shots. Because Word documents are prone to viruses, many message board users will not open your Word file, therefore limiting their ability to help you.

Similarly, if you are uploading a zipped archive, you should simply create a .ZIP file and not a self-extracting .EXE as many users will not run your EXE file.

  • Page totals incorrect

    Hello

    Version 12.4.6.2.6 Build 7295

    I believe I have uncovered a bug with Report Page Totals based on a calculated field.

    With and without using the PAGE_TOTAL Function, the report returns spurious results.

    Some page total fields are correct and yet on other pages, the sum is incorrect.

    Has anyone else experienced this?

    Thanks

    Alex

    Suggestion,
    Open the calculated field while in Report Design mode. Don't change the content, but check the result shows correctly under the code. Save the Report.
    If you have updated from a previous version, sometimes it is necessary to resycnch the calculation.
    If that doesn't work, please post back and I will see if I can replicate the error.

      Good Evening Ted

      I tried this on another one of my reports. It fails totally.
      This was done using the version 6945-5512.

      I tried the following in a report and got the same results. Namely, it thought the calc field was a character field rather than a number.

      The calculated fields created by dragging fields both character and numeric into the page footer area were:

      cnt_worksheet_custid_for_page = page_count(worksheet->custid) where custid is a character field hence I am counting
      tot_worksheet_timeelap_for_page = page_total(worksheet->timeelap) where timelaps is a numeric field
      ones = 1 a calculated field I added to each detail row for use below
      tot_calc_ones_for_page = page_total(calc->ones)
      cnt_worksheet_timeelap_for_page = page_count(worksheet->timeelap) another calc field

      None of these displayed any result in the report page footer.

      For me, it looks like these functions are not working.
      It's a shame it doesn't work.

      Thanks for your input.

      Kind regards

      Alex

        Alex, I successfully used page_count() and page_total() on the invoice report in alphasports. In that report each invoice does not have enough line items to spill over to a second page, and in the group break (on the header) invoices begin on a new page. My testing was with a very old version of AA (Build 2999).

        Do you have sample data (and a report) that would extend beyond one page? Can you share a redacted version of both with us?

              Hi Tom

              Thanks for your input.

              I am going to try it with V10.5 and see what that shows.

              I will also zip the application which shows the error which uses Version 12.4.6.2.6 Build 729

              Many thanks

                I can get Page Total to work but only on one numeric field. It was correct per page over 2 pages.
                Trying it with a Calculated Field results in zero (0) on my V12 which is old, and V11.5.
                Did it ever work Alex, or is this a new issue?

                Edit.
                It doesn't seem to work with calculated fields in 10.5 either.

                  At last! This works. The page total doesn't seem to like working with other calculated fields in the same code string.
                  This may not be the right way, but it works.

                  1 - Create a Calculated field for page_total(field) [1234.00]
                  2 - Create a Calculated field with a different number (I took field 1 and multiplied * 100 ) [123400.00
                  3 - Create a 3rd Calculated field which adds the other 2 together [124634.00]

                  calc->Pagetot+calc->Amtx100

                    Hello Tom & Ted

                    Attached are the files.

                    I have produced a video showing the issues.

                    I create and use them all the time.
                    Never had a problem inserting a link before, but here it says it is not a valid URL.
                    Tried saving it as a windows media file, and am informed the zipped file is too big.

                    If you care to email me at alex@dbasesolution.co.uk I will send you the video link as you can then clearly the issues.

                    Thanks for both your input. It is much appreciated.

                    Kind regards

                    Alex

                      Sorry, I forgot.

                      I tried it on A5V10 on a totally different machine and got the same issue.

                        I cannot get it to run, Alex.
                        Suggest a simple Alpha Zip not the one you used.

                              Backup is no good Alex.

                              From the CP, close all windows, tools, zip workspace.
