The Alpha Software Forum Participation Guidelines
The Alpha Software Forum is a free forum created for Alpha Software Developer Community to ask for help, exchange ideas, and share solutions. Alpha Software strives to create an environment where all members of the community can feel safe to participate. In order to ensure the Alpha Software Forum is a place where all feel welcome, forum participants are expected to behave as follows:
Be sure all comments and threads you post are respectful. Posts that contain any of the following content will be considered a violation of your agreement as a member of the Alpha Software Forum Community and will be moderated:
If a thread or post is found to contain any of the content outlined above, a moderator may choose to take one of the following actions:
Moderators may also rename posts and threads if they are too generic or do not property reflect the content.
Moderators may move threads if they have been posted in the incorrect forum.
Threads/Posts questioning specific moderator decisions or actions (such as "why was a user banned?") are not allowed and will be removed.
The owners of Alpha Software Corporation (Forum Owner) reserve the right to remove, edit, move, or close any thread for any reason; or ban any forum member without notice, reason, or explanation.
Community members are encouraged to click the "Report Post" icon in the lower left of a given post if they feel the post is in violation of the rules. This will alert the Moderators to take a look.
Alpha Software Corporation may amend the guidelines from time to time and may also vary the procedures it sets out where appropriate in a particular case. Your agreement to comply with the guidelines will be deemed agreement to any changes to it.
Bonus TIPS for Successful Posting
Try a Search First
It is highly recommended that a Search be done on your topic before posting, as many questions have been answered in prior posts. As with any search engine, the shorter the search term, the more "hits" will be returned, but the more specific the search term is, the greater the relevance of those "hits". Searching for "table" might well return every message on the board while "tablesum" would greatly restrict the number of messages returned.
When you do post
First, make sure you are posting your question in the correct forum. For example, if you post an issue regarding Desktop applications on the Mobile & Browser Applications board , not only will your question not be seen by the appropriate audience, it may also be removed or relocated.
The more detail you provide about your problem or question, the more likely someone is to understand your request and be able to help. A sample database with a minimum of records (and its support files, zipped together) will make it much easier to diagnose issues with your application. Screen shots of error messages are especially helpful.
When explaining how to reproduce your problem, please be as detailed as possible. Describe every step, click-by-click and keypress-by-keypress. Otherwise when others try to duplicate your problem, they may do something slightly different and end up with different results.
A note about attachments
You may only attach one file to each message. Attachment file size is limited to 2MB. If you need to include several files, you may do so by zipping them into a single archive.
If you forgot to attach your files to your post, please do NOT create a new thread. Instead, reply to your original message and attach the file there.
When attaching screen shots, it is best to attach an image file (.BMP, .JPG, .GIF, .PNG, etc.) or a zip file of several images, as opposed to a Word document containing the screen shots. Because Word documents are prone to viruses, many message board users will not open your Word file, therefore limiting their ability to help you.
Similarly, if you are uploading a zipped archive, you should simply create a .ZIP file and not a self-extracting .EXE as many users will not run your EXE file.

- Personal attacks, insults, or subtle put-downs.
- Harassment, bullying, threatening, mocking, shaming, or deriding anyone.
- Sexist, racist, homophobic, transphobic, ableist, or otherwise discriminatory jokes and language.
- Sexually explicit or violent material, links, or language.
- Pirated, hacked, or copyright-infringing material.
- Encouraging of others to engage in the above behaviors.
If a thread or post is found to contain any of the content outlined above, a moderator may choose to take one of the following actions:
- Remove the Post or Thread - the content is removed from the forum.
- Place the User in Moderation - all posts and new threads must be approved by a moderator before they are posted.
- Temporarily Ban the User - user is banned from forum for a period of time.
- Permanently Ban the User - user is permanently banned from the forum.

Not a backup Alex.
You can only restore a backup to an existing database, and I don't have that.
Please zip the Workspace.See our Hybrid Option here;

Alex, going back to your first post, you never say if the page_total() function ever worked. Then in another post you mentioned something about trying this in version 10.5. ????
I tried your example in build 7295 and it does fail for me. The three page total calculated fields return the calc field name instead of any numeric value.
I opened the report in design mode and did not see anything wrong. I then went to an earlier build of Alpha Anywhere and it failed in that build, 4269. I then tried the report in Version 11 and the report failed there too. Lastly I tried your report in Alpha 10.5 and it failed there too.
In version 10.5, I put the report in design mode and rebuilt the calculated fields. The Page_total() worked. The report now worked in Version 11 and Alpha Anywhere both build 4269 and 4770. I then tried the report again in Build 7295 and the Page_total() fails.
It appears that putting the report in design mode in the current version of Alpha Anywhere injects some code that breaks the page_total(). After rebuilding the report in version 10.5, the report works in all versions except for the current version.
Yes I do believe you have found a bug.Alpha 5 Version 11

Ted
This does not work for me except if I go in the design of BrAnal_1 report and re-input the calc page total fields in the calculated fields section, save changes (even though there are none), and then preview.
But come out of the app and go back in again and it does not display page totals only the field names.
Since the function for page total does not come up on the list as you type it in, I suspect it is no longer supported.
Should anyone from Alpha read this can you confirm please either way, whether functions such PAGE_TOTAL() and PAGE_COUNT() are still present in the latest version of AA desktop?
Once again thanks for your input

Suggest you try Compacting the database once you have opened the .zip I uploaded and retry.
In no change, try this;
Go to report design mode
Top Menu line, select Report/Properties/Region/Body for Report Footer/Region/Keep together on page
Save the report.
(This is not available through right click on the report region in the report body. You must do it from the top menu line.)
It could also be where you have AA installed.
I tied in V9,10.5,11.5 and 12 with no issues - but all development versions are NOT in the Program Folder - always outside in a separate one.
Then, change the detail properties in your original version of the report to Keep together on page, as per the image in post #19 and the suggestion in line 2 above.
The AA Documentation still shows the Page_total is an option, although it does not appear as an item when you start typing it in.
EDIT. When I created the second report, I simply duplicated the original one and added the Keep Together On Page.
Trying to change your original report, even with compacting, does not work.
So, suggestion 199. Try duplicating you report and see if you can make the change. It may just be that the original is corrupt somehow.Last edited by Ted Giles; 03-07-2021, 08:43 AM.See our Hybrid Option here;

Hell Ted
Compact made no difference
My developer Alpha is never in program files/program files x86 but is in C:\A5V12, C:\A5V10. No longer have previous versions to those.
Region properties already set as requested.
Tried a new report and I still get field names in place of page total numbers.
Thanks for your continued assistance.

Alex

Alex, I tried to post a reply yesterday but this board blocked my post telling me it was spam. It's a bug using the current stable build. I was able to recreate your report using version 10.5. Your report worked using version 11, Alpha Anywhere builds 4269 and 4770. The report fails using the latest build 7295. Shows the caculated field name.Alpha 5 Version 11

Thanks, Ron. Now, what is the process involved in alerting Alpha so they can fix it?

Alex, May I suggest something that sounds silly. Your ADB is in a subfolder beneath the folder containing the data. Try putting everything in a single folder, without using subfolders. This is how I configured the files I extracted from your RAR file. The pg counts seem to work fine here. By the way, as a matter of personal preference I store all the data files (and their dictionaries) in the same folder as the ADB (workspace). This makes the entire collection more portable and eliminates "pathing" issues when the workspace is moved to a new machine.

Hi Tom
This occurred because of Ted's request for a zip backup of the workplace. I don't use Alpha's built-in zip capability. I put everything in one directory with the relevant subfolders and then use Winrar to zip everything up into one file.
It means I get a full duplicate on the workstation I'm transferring to.
As you say it's simple to do.
Thanks for your input.
I will log it as a suspected bug.
Kind regards
