Bonus TIPS for Successful Posting

Try a Search First
It is highly recommended that a Search be done on your topic before posting, as many questions have been answered in prior posts. As with any search engine, the shorter the search term, the more "hits" will be returned, but the more specific the search term is, the greater the relevance of those "hits". Searching for "table" might well return every message on the board while "tablesum" would greatly restrict the number of messages returned.

When you do post
First, make sure you are posting your question in the correct forum. For example, if you post an issue regarding Desktop applications on the Mobile & Browser Applications board , not only will your question not be seen by the appropriate audience, it may also be removed or relocated.

The more detail you provide about your problem or question, the more likely someone is to understand your request and be able to help. A sample database with a minimum of records (and its support files, zipped together) will make it much easier to diagnose issues with your application. Screen shots of error messages are especially helpful.

When explaining how to reproduce your problem, please be as detailed as possible. Describe every step, click-by-click and keypress-by-keypress. Otherwise when others try to duplicate your problem, they may do something slightly different and end up with different results.

A note about attachments
You may only attach one file to each message. Attachment file size is limited to 2MB. If you need to include several files, you may do so by zipping them into a single archive.

If you forgot to attach your files to your post, please do NOT create a new thread. Instead, reply to your original message and attach the file there.

When attaching screen shots, it is best to attach an image file (.BMP, .JPG, .GIF, .PNG, etc.) or a zip file of several images, as opposed to a Word document containing the screen shots. Because Word documents are prone to viruses, many message board users will not open your Word file, therefore limiting their ability to help you.

Similarly, if you are uploading a zipped archive, you should simply create a .ZIP file and not a self-extracting .EXE as many users will not run your EXE file.

Oh forgot to mention, I also did some test on the
Alpha Demo Web Application -> samples -> tabular based on view by clicking the 'Print Invoice' . Also producing the same error type

Report did not print. Error reported was:

      Layout name: Invoice@[PathAlias.ADB_Path]\invoice.set
      Layout type: report

Re: Path to report .ddd file - A Bug?

I need to use the pdf layout since need to print it in proper letter layout.

This project previously done in V9, and upgraded to V10.5.
Since upgrade, I cannot design any new letter printout . This is so frustating with all the alpha 10.5 ajax capabilites.

Reallly really hope Alpha team can look into this, maybe it will also be an issue in V11

          thanks

Re: Path to report .ddd file - A Bug?

Problem still exists in V11, but from the "whats new in V11" - An improved Quick Report Genie and a new Layout Table report allow the easy generation of reports in HTML and Excel.
I haven't had time to look at that yet, but maybe it will make it easier to use HTML reporting till Alpha get around to the problem

Re: Path to report .ddd file - A Bug?

Something you can check is the report/layout name.

I remember an issue I had, where the layout name was creating an error because I used a character that was not valid for a windows filename. You can name layouts and reports with characters that would normally not be accepted as a windows filenames. So, when it goes to create the report using the report or layout name as part of the default pdf filename, it would use that invalid character and create an error.

For example, I named a report "print bid w/ detail info.". When Alpha created the PDF file, it used the name of my report to create the PDF file, and since the "/" character can't be used as a file name, it gave me an error when it tried to save it under that name.

I don't know if that's the problem here or if I'm confusing this solution with a different problem. But, I hope it helps.

What really interesting is that the sample web application demo also display same error message...
Really hope that this can be resolved by Alpha soon

Have any of you submitted formal bug reports to Alpha? It's a mistake to think you'll get their attention by posting here. While they wander by from time to time, this is a peer supported message board. Suggest you submit a formal bug report and then post the results here.

Re: Path to report .ddd file - A Bug?

As I recall, we discovered that changing the path on the webserver from A5Webroot to A5Webroot2 solved our problem. I think it's more related to the process of creating the directories rather than the name change, but it did work.
