Bonus TIPS for Successful Posting

Try a Search First
It is highly recommended that a Search be done on your topic before posting, as many questions have been answered in prior posts. As with any search engine, the shorter the search term, the more "hits" will be returned, but the more specific the search term is, the greater the relevance of those "hits". Searching for "table" might well return every message on the board while "tablesum" would greatly restrict the number of messages returned.

When you do post
First, make sure you are posting your question in the correct forum. For example, if you post an issue regarding Desktop applications on the Mobile & Browser Applications board , not only will your question not be seen by the appropriate audience, it may also be removed or relocated.

The more detail you provide about your problem or question, the more likely someone is to understand your request and be able to help. A sample database with a minimum of records (and its support files, zipped together) will make it much easier to diagnose issues with your application. Screen shots of error messages are especially helpful.

When explaining how to reproduce your problem, please be as detailed as possible. Describe every step, click-by-click and keypress-by-keypress. Otherwise when others try to duplicate your problem, they may do something slightly different and end up with different results.

A note about attachments
You may only attach one file to each message. Attachment file size is limited to 2MB. If you need to include several files, you may do so by zipping them into a single archive.

If you forgot to attach your files to your post, please do NOT create a new thread. Instead, reply to your original message and attach the file there.

When attaching screen shots, it is best to attach an image file (.BMP, .JPG, .GIF, .PNG, etc.) or a zip file of several images, as opposed to a Word document containing the screen shots. Because Word documents are prone to viruses, many message board users will not open your Word file, therefore limiting their ability to help you.

Similarly, if you are uploading a zipped archive, you should simply create a .ZIP file and not a self-extracting .EXE as many users will not run your EXE file.

Re: Dialog Radiobutton not displaying data

    Selwyn,

I am sending another zip of my sample using AlphaSports on a SQL Server.

The recording was made using the dialog recording_dialog_radiobutton.

Did you see my video ? Was I creating it correctly ?

Note: I am using a login with SA privileges for the test so not to be restricted.
Computer is Win 7 Prof Service Pack 1, AMD 64 x2 processor, 64 bit system, 8GB ram

Re: Dialog Radiobutton not displaying data

your zip file has a dialog component, but no backup of the sql database you are using.
      therefore I can't run it.

i took your dialog component, and changed it to bind it to a copy of alphasports that had been upsized to sql server.
as the video shows, it works perfectly.

the modified version of your component is attached.

Re: Dialog Radiobutton not displaying data

I rebuilt the tables in SQL Server, changed the connection string in the dialog and ran it.... it's fine... all works.

No... it doesn't work. I forgot to change my Radio Button Choices connection and setup. Now it doesn't work... going to have a look.

Re: Dialog Radiobutton not displaying data

Found the problem using FireBug (got to send those guys some money).

Using SQL Server, the choices going into the HTML control , V001, V002 etc. have an extra space at the end of each choice... as in the attached image.

Under MySQL, no space, therefore it works.

With the extra space, there is nothing to match the data with.

The 1st image is using a SQL Server table to define the Radio control choices. The 2nd image uses MySQL.

I don't know where the problem is, but here's a quick fix. Use RTRIM in your SQL Statement...

          Code:
SELECT DISTINCT RTRIM(Vendor) AS Vendor FROM picklist ORDER BY Vendor
Final Edit... I hope... Here's the problem... I'm guessing. Your PickList SQL Server table... your field Vendor, is defined larger than 4 characters. Mine was just the default, nchar(10). When I changed my SQL Server table to nchar(4), it's all fine.

Now I went back into MySQL and changed the column from Varchar(4) to Varchar(10) - it all works.
Next, went back into SQL Server and change the column from nchar(4) to Varchar(10) - it all works.
But... I just learned that nchar is a fixed length data type... so... there you go. It shouldn't work with nchar. No problems with Alpah5.
So... what's your datatype and size for Vendor under SQL Server?

Lastly, I'm going to make a suggestion. This type of stuff is quite a bit of fun to look into. However... there's more back and forth than needed when not enough information is given... no table structure, no identification for database... ie. DBF, SQLServer, MySQL, sometimes no id given for object type... Grid or Dialog (not in this case). If the person asking the question puts in as much as possible then finding a solution would be that much quicker... I'm guessing.

Re: Dialog Radiobutton not displaying data

Yup... that's the problem. Your Char(10) for Vendor in PickList is causing the problem. Change it to a length of 4, or change the data type to varchar

Re: Dialog Radiobutton not displaying data

I changed the data type from char(10) to varchar(10) didn't work.

Re-entered Picklist tables data, the radiobutton displayed as expected. It is now working.

As noted from David the nchar() stored blank spaces at the end.

THANK YOU: Lance, David and Selwyn !
