Bonus TIPS for Successful Posting

Try a Search First
It is highly recommended that a Search be done on your topic before posting, as many questions have been answered in prior posts. As with any search engine, the shorter the search term, the more "hits" will be returned, but the more specific the search term is, the greater the relevance of those "hits". Searching for "table" might well return every message on the board while "tablesum" would greatly restrict the number of messages returned.

When you do post
First, make sure you are posting your question in the correct forum. For example, if you post an issue regarding Desktop applications on the Mobile & Browser Applications board , not only will your question not be seen by the appropriate audience, it may also be removed or relocated.

The more detail you provide about your problem or question, the more likely someone is to understand your request and be able to help. A sample database with a minimum of records (and its support files, zipped together) will make it much easier to diagnose issues with your application. Screen shots of error messages are especially helpful.

When explaining how to reproduce your problem, please be as detailed as possible. Describe every step, click-by-click and keypress-by-keypress. Otherwise when others try to duplicate your problem, they may do something slightly different and end up with different results.

A note about attachments
You may only attach one file to each message. Attachment file size is limited to 2MB. If you need to include several files, you may do so by zipping them into a single archive.

If you forgot to attach your files to your post, please do NOT create a new thread. Instead, reply to your original message and attach the file there.

When attaching screen shots, it is best to attach an image file (.BMP, .JPG, .GIF, .PNG, etc.) or a zip file of several images, as opposed to a Word document containing the screen shots. Because Word documents are prone to viruses, many message board users will not open your Word file, therefore limiting their ability to help you.

Similarly, if you are uploading a zipped archive, you should simply create a .ZIP file and not a self-extracting .EXE as many users will not run your EXE file.

Re: Detailed View To Work In Tabbed UI Builder

    Hi Peter,

Thanks for your response, I appreciate it. I was thinking doing 10 diff dialog components because I have 200 or so different form fields per record. Is there a negative to doing it this way? Would the program run slower because I have 10 different dialog components?

Still trying to figure out how to pass my variable from my grid button to the tabbed ui. Hopefully Steve Wood will be able to help me on one of the posts you recommended.

I appreciate your feedback since I am still so new to learning all of this.

    Thank you,

    Lily

Re: Detailed View To Work In Tabbed UI Builder

Passing variables from the grid button to the tabbed ui is built in. You can pass it on the URL. Or you can set a sesson variable. It won't be the components that slow you down. It will be the 200 columns that you're bringing back. Is there a way to split all those columns up into several tables?

Re: Detailed View To Work In Tabbed UI Builder

Lee, I was hoping that it was built in but I wasn't able to find out how. Can you direct me how to do that?

At this point, yes I can separate my tables, it's a little daunting to me because I have never worked with linked tables. Do you really think it will save on load time? If so I will take that task on but only if it really will save load time.

Thank you so much for your help :-)

Re: Detailed View To Work In Tabbed UI Builder

Does anyone know an automatic way to pass a variable from a grid button to a tabbed UI like lvasic says in the above post? He says it is possible through a session variable and I am just not sure how to do this through default options. THANK You for any help!! :-D

            Lily,

An easy way to pass variables around clientside (javascript) is using the window namespace. See video M43

Re: Detailed View To Work In Tabbed UI Builder

lvasic, you are awesome! The video makes perfect sense and I really appreciate your time. I have 1 more question for you. When I go to the "Set Arguments Values" (on the page where I am choosing which page to link to in the "Link Address Builder") and click the button it says "component does not have any arguments."

So I am not certain if the tabbed ui doesn't have any arguments or if the dialog on the tabbed ui doesn't have arguments but I looked into both and am completely lost as to how to define the arguments.

I really really appreciate your help. Thank you :-D

Re: Detailed View To Work In Tabbed UI Builder

I just figured it out, It's in the tabbed ui and I click the tabbed ui properties and edit the arguments there. So I just inserted the new argument as the primary key value and set the value of the argument to set itself at run time. Is that correct?

(I am having problems publishing my program so I can't test this but I am no longer getting errors, which looks like a good sign)

Seriously I am so grateful for your help! Thank you!!!

Re: Detailed View To Work In Tabbed UI Builder

So you will need to set args in both places. On the Dialog and the tabbed_ui. The Dialog has the same property settings. Then on the button in the tabbed_ui that calls a grid or report or whatever, be sure to set the filter and link to the argument so that the grid is filtered by the args.

                        lvasic,

so I'm pretty sure my brain exploded in trying to figure this out, so I just had to walk away for a couple of days. It seems so simple the way you explain it but I am obviously missing something. I created a video showing what I have done and maybe you could help me. http://screencast.com/t/wvdtxBqPl.

Thank you, I really appreciate it.

You almost got it. In the tabbed_UI under properties you are setting the argument to get it's value from a session variable. Change that so that it will get it at runtime. Then you will see that argument in the builder where you call the tabbed_UI.

Here's the map: Your Grid loads the values to the Dialog args. The Dialog loads the values to the Tabbed_UI args.

Mapping it out like that is very helpful, thank you. It can get really confusing when you don't know what is feeding what.

I create another video based on your suggestion http://screencast.com/t/DRJ5lAK4Cb

Also, I was wondering, why is your grid button calling a dialog and then the tabbed_UI? You can call the tabbed_UI from your grid button directly.
The other thing I noticed is that you set a variable when you called the tabbed_UI. You don't need to set that variable. You are passing the args just fine.
