Bonus TIPS for Successful Posting

Try a Search First
It is highly recommended that a Search be done on your topic before posting, as many questions have been answered in prior posts. As with any search engine, the shorter the search term, the more "hits" will be returned, but the more specific the search term is, the greater the relevance of those "hits". Searching for "table" might well return every message on the board while "tablesum" would greatly restrict the number of messages returned.

When you do post
First, make sure you are posting your question in the correct forum. For example, if you post an issue regarding Desktop applications on the Mobile & Browser Applications board , not only will your question not be seen by the appropriate audience, it may also be removed or relocated.

The more detail you provide about your problem or question, the more likely someone is to understand your request and be able to help. A sample database with a minimum of records (and its support files, zipped together) will make it much easier to diagnose issues with your application. Screen shots of error messages are especially helpful.

When explaining how to reproduce your problem, please be as detailed as possible. Describe every step, click-by-click and keypress-by-keypress. Otherwise when others try to duplicate your problem, they may do something slightly different and end up with different results.

A note about attachments
You may only attach one file to each message. Attachment file size is limited to 2MB. If you need to include several files, you may do so by zipping them into a single archive.

If you forgot to attach your files to your post, please do NOT create a new thread. Instead, reply to your original message and attach the file there.

When attaching screen shots, it is best to attach an image file (.BMP, .JPG, .GIF, .PNG, etc.) or a zip file of several images, as opposed to a Word document containing the screen shots. Because Word documents are prone to viruses, many message board users will not open your Word file, therefore limiting their ability to help you.

Similarly, if you are uploading a zipped archive, you should simply create a .ZIP file and not a self-extracting .EXE as many users will not run your EXE file.

  • Detailed View To Work In Tabbed UI Builder

I have created a grid component and have also created a detailed view for the grid which resides on the same page.

What I would like to do is...

Keep the grid component on one page

When Clicked I would like the user to be linked to a new page which contains a Tabbed UI with the detailed view. ***I have seen the changes in the property window relating to the positioning of the detailed view which includes a pop up screen but this doesn't fulfill what I want. I have also put tabs in the detailed view but again, not what I am looking for. I would very much like to be able to use the Tabbed UI to view the details for each record.

    I think this means...

I need to create multiple sections of the detailed view which I would then submit into the Tabbed UI, either through the grid component or the dialog component.

    My problem is...

I don't know how to create a detailed view in its own component and I don't know which component would be best to use. So my question is how do I create multiple detailed view components which can be linked into a Tabbed UI?

I am brand new to this, so any and all help will be very much appreciated.

    Thank you!

    Lily

Or what about the zoom to record in the xbasic script genie under Form/Browse?

I just don't want to choose the wrong thing.

Why don't you use a dialog instead of the detail view and in that dialog you can use a tab control...

You could take a look at videos M45. Then create a grid component for one tab in your tabbed UI & a single record form (detail view) component for the other tab and see if you can get them to talk to one another.
          Just an idea.

Re: Detailed View To Work In Tabbed UI Builder

Thank you both for your responses I appreciate them. Based on your suggestions I did the following...

I created a dialog component with the tabs but after doing so I realized it is not the same as the tabbed UI, the tabs are located on the top instead of the side. Very disappointing because with this option I would have been easily able to filter the grid component through a dialog component using a button following this training http://www.ajaxvideotutorials.com/V1...rNewRecord.swf Do either of you know if there is a way to make the tabs in a dialog component look more like the tabbed UI?

Frank I also tried to figure out how to create a single record form component but wasn't sure how to do this on its own. Can you walk me through how to do that in the tabbed UI.

            I appreciate you both

Re: Detailed View To Work In Tabbed UI Builder

SO since I got flagged by the forum and my posts haven't posted yet, I have been messing around and have been able to do the following...

                1. Added the grid component into the tabbed ui (honestly not what I wanted to do)
                2. Added a button with server side action script that populates a tabbed ui with the primary key selected

This is working in the tabbed ui but it isn't tied to the button on the left, instead it is opening up a new page.

What I would like is the grid to be on one page and the tabbed ui to open up to edit the record and I would like the tabs in the records to each be apart of the record, which I have 9 different sections that I would like editable within the tabbed ui.

I am starting to think that this will require more than just utilizing the primary key. Do you think I will need a session variable? Personally I think I should be able to pass the primary key through multiple pages without having an issue but I am not having any success.

                Thanks for any advice :-)

Are all of your pages the same table or do you have multiple tables that you want in tabs?

It seems like you have very specific requirements. In that case, I would use the Dialog2 component. You can achieve just about anything you can conceive. The tabbed UI is somewhat limtied. However, you can build to your requirements to look like a tabbed UI in the Dialog2.

How can I do that? I tried the tabs in the dialog2 builder but there are just top tabs. How could I make it look like that tabbed ui?

Re: Detailed View To Work In Tabbed UI Builder

You can have buttons that hide and unhide divs and your columns can be in those divs. What is it that you like about the tabbed_ui?

Re: Detailed View To Work In Tabbed UI Builder

I like that the buttons are all on the left hand side, because I have so many tabs that I want to use, it is much easier to read the names of the buttons when they are on the left hand side.

I was thinking I could set an edit button in the grid to open the tabbed ui using a default action Javascript onclick function and at the same time dim a session variable and give it the id value for the record set. *I'm not even sure this is possible to do at the same time.

From there I'm not really sure how to input the variable into the tabbed tabbed ui. (I am planning on using dialog2s for each tab) I can hide the form field which would accept the id value for the record set just not sure what the best way to do this is. I was looking into pointer variables but can one variable be defined 2 different ways? Also, not really sure about code indirection, would this work.

I guess now my question is once I dim a session variable on the onclick function of a button how do I take that variable and input it into the form field to make the rest of the record match the id?

Thanks for any help, I appreciate it

Re: Detailed View To Work In Tabbed UI Builder

There are many ways to do this. But I don't think you want 10 diff. dialog components - you only need one. You can show/hide sections as needed. Check out some of the videos on dialogs (I know, there's a million).

Here are two other related threads:

This one uses pages (you could do that w.a tabbed_Ui):
                              http://msgboard.alphasoftware.com/al...cord-Thank-You!

This uses a single dialog w. any number of grids (probably not what you want), but there's a couple of useful videos in this one:
                              http://msgboard.alphasoftware.com/al...and-many-Grids

I think you need one dialog w. show/hide sections or use pages.
