Bonus TIPS for Successful Posting

Try a Search First
It is highly recommended that a Search be done on your topic before posting, as many questions have been answered in prior posts. As with any search engine, the shorter the search term, the more "hits" will be returned, but the more specific the search term is, the greater the relevance of those "hits". Searching for "table" might well return every message on the board while "tablesum" would greatly restrict the number of messages returned.

When you do post
First, make sure you are posting your question in the correct forum. For example, if you post an issue regarding Desktop applications on the Mobile & Browser Applications board , not only will your question not be seen by the appropriate audience, it may also be removed or relocated.

The more detail you provide about your problem or question, the more likely someone is to understand your request and be able to help. A sample database with a minimum of records (and its support files, zipped together) will make it much easier to diagnose issues with your application. Screen shots of error messages are especially helpful.

When explaining how to reproduce your problem, please be as detailed as possible. Describe every step, click-by-click and keypress-by-keypress. Otherwise when others try to duplicate your problem, they may do something slightly different and end up with different results.

A note about attachments
You may only attach one file to each message. Attachment file size is limited to 2MB. If you need to include several files, you may do so by zipping them into a single archive.

If you forgot to attach your files to your post, please do NOT create a new thread. Instead, reply to your original message and attach the file there.

When attaching screen shots, it is best to attach an image file (.BMP, .JPG, .GIF, .PNG, etc.) or a zip file of several images, as opposed to a Word document containing the screen shots. Because Word documents are prone to viruses, many message board users will not open your Word file, therefore limiting their ability to help you.

Similarly, if you are uploading a zipped archive, you should simply create a .ZIP file and not a self-extracting .EXE as many users will not run your EXE file.

Re: line numbering on report problem

    Peter,
Is it possible if I can have my old set (from my attached pictures)
My answer is No. If the report could work with your set I would not have made a new one for you.
and when I want to print the report for ONE Customer I have a variable (on form) and key in the customer_id in form ,then it will filter all records for only ONE CUSTOMER and print list of all invoice
Look at the Print this Invoice button on the Invoice form of AlphaSports. When I say look at the button, I mean in design mode to see the Action Script behind it.

I will have to respectfully disagree with Keith. I think Peter can use the set as he has it.

Keith, the button on the Alphasports invoice form that you give as an example runs a report, 'Invoice', which is based on a set that has the Invoice_Header table as its Parent. Much the same as that of Peter's set.

      Peter,

I think all you need is: run_count(Invoice_no)

Re: line numbering on report problem

        Hi Tim,

I did test the original Invoice set in AS first and as you can see from the attached the desired result is not achieved, hence the new set.

I think Peter could not see the benefit of a new set. Also, as Peter is on a very steep learning curve I wanted to apply the KISS principle.

Re: line numbering on report problem

          Keith,
Using the invoice set in Alphasports I created the report attached to this post. The report is filtered for one customer by customer Id. (in the same that Peter is doing dynamically from the button on his form.) There is a group on Invoice_number. The fields of the report are placed within this group and the detail section has been disabled.

            Hi Tim,

Very neat. As I said in another post, I'm always prepared to stand corrected.

How would you include the Discount and Sales Tax?

                Hi Tim,

Yes, I tried run_count(Invoice_no) on my report and it works great!!!
finally very short expression after I tried so many days. I'm sorry if I explain not enough information or not clear due to my english.

I also tried run_count(G1invoice_Items->Extension) and the result is the same (line number is correct)

I have more question for the line number and report when report has 2 pages why the last line of the first page will repeate print again in the first line of the second page (please see attached file the line number 19) ?

                Many Thanks

Re: line numbering on report problem

I can did it now for the problem when I print the report and the last line of first page will reprint again in the first line of the second page by re-layout new report for header and footer and it's ok now.

Thanks for all to help me to add the line number.

                    Well done Peter.

I think you are now beginning to understand how Alpha works and how best to ask a question on this forum. Two good lessons learned.
