Bonus TIPS for Successful Posting

Try a Search First
It is highly recommended that a Search be done on your topic before posting, as many questions have been answered in prior posts. As with any search engine, the shorter the search term, the more "hits" will be returned, but the more specific the search term is, the greater the relevance of those "hits". Searching for "table" might well return every message on the board while "tablesum" would greatly restrict the number of messages returned.

When you do post
First, make sure you are posting your question in the correct forum. For example, if you post an issue regarding Desktop applications on the Mobile & Browser Applications board , not only will your question not be seen by the appropriate audience, it may also be removed or relocated.

The more detail you provide about your problem or question, the more likely someone is to understand your request and be able to help. A sample database with a minimum of records (and its support files, zipped together) will make it much easier to diagnose issues with your application. Screen shots of error messages are especially helpful.

When explaining how to reproduce your problem, please be as detailed as possible. Describe every step, click-by-click and keypress-by-keypress. Otherwise when others try to duplicate your problem, they may do something slightly different and end up with different results.

A note about attachments
You may only attach one file to each message. Attachment file size is limited to 2MB. If you need to include several files, you may do so by zipping them into a single archive.

If you forgot to attach your files to your post, please do NOT create a new thread. Instead, reply to your original message and attach the file there.

When attaching screen shots, it is best to attach an image file (.BMP, .JPG, .GIF, .PNG, etc.) or a zip file of several images, as opposed to a Word document containing the screen shots. Because Word documents are prone to viruses, many message board users will not open your Word file, therefore limiting their ability to help you.

Similarly, if you are uploading a zipped archive, you should simply create a .ZIP file and not a self-extracting .EXE as many users will not run your EXE file.

    Re: SQL Move Database

    Not the ponies huh? Awww.

I actually wrote a program many years ago on an Apple IIC to help me handicap the horses. I later converted it to an office program, doing everything with spreadsheets. Doing this was the end of my programming days. (Well until now as I am learning Xbasic, and Javascript.)

I had some success with it, but found the data entry (a good 5+ hours) to be too tedious, and eventually gave it up. Although now I think I could download comma delimited files, or excel files, import the data, and produce pdfs in no time. I may build an alpha app for this at a later date.

But getting back on topic, (or close to it,) it would be nice if Alpha did have a native SQL. Or if one was developed that could be installed along with the app automatically taking the user out of the equation, or needing the developer to install one. Is there a reason Alpha has stuck with the dbf format?

Maybe habit or more likely, all the users startred with dbf so many years ago and alpha knows it would be hard for people to switch over and they do not wish to lose clients. Also, sql is not as portable as dbf. There were alternatives to dbf, but really not as easy to use for the average person.

One needs to remember the big ones(alpha competitors) all(mostly) used dbf. think dbase, foxpro, clipper, etc.

I have added this desire in the wishlist and we will see how it goes. I included the following in the comment:

There was a mention of an "unsupported"SQL engine.
        Anyone used it?

Interesting to know you are a speed merchant.
I'm into motor bikes personally, restoring old ones (1960 Triumph and Norton 99 Cafe Racer trim, and build my Honda CBR 1000 F4 from bits, 0-100 and stop in 10 secs.)

              Ted,

I don't know very much about motorcycles, but one of my sponsors was a great motorcycle restoration experts. He particularly love the Harley's and had around 100 of the Shriner's small m/c's they used in parades and stuff. I do remember an Indian with a gear shift on the side. It was amazing to me to wander through his collections.

The first M/C I remember being very neat to me was a Norton(I think it was a 750) many years ago. It just had a great look.

My expertise was setting a car up to go left turns and then drive it. I didn't mention earlier, I almost won Road Atlanta once(finished 3rd in class) in a Datsun 240Z. Small error of slowing down put me off the course.

You should post a couple of pictures?

                LOL! 240Z, Corners?
                You're nuts! Cast iron underpants?
I'll send some pics privately. I run a Saab 9.3 chipped up Sport Wagon. Had a 900 turbo pushing 300 bhp but it "cattled" the gearbox at 90k miles. 0-60, 5.4. Porche get out of the way!

                  Re: SQL Move Database

I owned 7 240z's back in the day. The one I raced was a true race car and within the rules. It would run about 180 in a straight line with enough space. Most early ones would do about 140 off the showroom floor with tuning. One of my stree cars was even faster with all the racing stuff including 3 2 barrel side draft webbers. I think about 195 in street form given the space.

Right now, I am setup man/crew chief on a super late model in Florida. I have managed to make the car a little faster each race, and working even harder on the inexperience driver. I have a top 3 car anywhere(from a 10th place) and a 6th place driver. LOL He is getting better and I think maybe 4th place next time out because of him. We are gaining!

I wish I had all my real old pics. Fire fixed that!

                    Re: SQL Move Database

I have a friend who races in the Classic Touring section. He started with an MG Metro and moved up to a 3 litre Ford Capri.
Trouble is that he always blames the lack of kit for his finishing positions. Last time it was different differential, this time he believes that a straight cut gearbox will put him in front.
I think it's his weight, personally.
Can you get any old pics from the magazines or local papers? You might even be on film somewhere burnin' rubber!

                      Re: SQL Move Database

                      straight cut gearbox
More trouble than it is worth. Usually it is set up and skill that wins races. If you can get it through the corner 2 mph faster than the other car it generally equals 5 mph down the straightaway. I suspect he needs to work on suspension and braking. Mostly in circle track and others, you start a pass on the exit of a corner and complete under braking into the next corner. Speed through the corner is key.

I have a few pics somewhere in a box if I can find the box. They were all later because the older ones were all burned. Most of the people I worked with in the early 70's and back are gone now. I was never one on pics anyways and now wish I had been.
                      Car I keep up now:

Car is Monte Carlo(fiberglass), Port City Chassis, 355 alluminum heads(650 HP), 750 holley, quick change, wide 5 15" X 13" wide slicks, 2 speed trans, and everything on it is adjustable.
