Bonus TIPS for Successful Posting

Try a Search First
It is highly recommended that a Search be done on your topic before posting, as many questions have been answered in prior posts. As with any search engine, the shorter the search term, the more "hits" will be returned, but the more specific the search term is, the greater the relevance of those "hits". Searching for "table" might well return every message on the board while "tablesum" would greatly restrict the number of messages returned.

When you do post
First, make sure you are posting your question in the correct forum. For example, if you post an issue regarding Desktop applications on the Mobile & Browser Applications board , not only will your question not be seen by the appropriate audience, it may also be removed or relocated.

The more detail you provide about your problem or question, the more likely someone is to understand your request and be able to help. A sample database with a minimum of records (and its support files, zipped together) will make it much easier to diagnose issues with your application. Screen shots of error messages are especially helpful.

When explaining how to reproduce your problem, please be as detailed as possible. Describe every step, click-by-click and keypress-by-keypress. Otherwise when others try to duplicate your problem, they may do something slightly different and end up with different results.

A note about attachments
You may only attach one file to each message. Attachment file size is limited to 2MB. If you need to include several files, you may do so by zipping them into a single archive.

If you forgot to attach your files to your post, please do NOT create a new thread. Instead, reply to your original message and attach the file there.

When attaching screen shots, it is best to attach an image file (.BMP, .JPG, .GIF, .PNG, etc.) or a zip file of several images, as opposed to a Word document containing the screen shots. Because Word documents are prone to viruses, many message board users will not open your Word file, therefore limiting their ability to help you.

Similarly, if you are uploading a zipped archive, you should simply create a .ZIP file and not a self-extracting .EXE as many users will not run your EXE file.

    Well I offered to try the app Preston and you ignored me.
    My V11 RT and Dev work just fine on my Win7 installation, so it is something in your apps autoexec that Win 7 doesn't want to run.

    Path to Alpha Programs.
    Developer = C:\Program Files\a5V11
    Runtime = C"\Program Files\a5V11 Runtime

    This is your problem I suspect. Reload Alpha away from the Program Files folder and try again.
    I also suspect that when you run whatever autoexec you have created in Win 7, the Opsys assumes you are doing something illegal.

    Final offer. Zip the app and send it and if I can open it with the current autoexec etc, it's not an alpha issue and you can focus on another area.

    Apologies to anyone I haven't managed to upset yet.
    You are held in a queue and I will get to you soon.

      Ted, it is not my app or any other app that is the problem so I did not ignore you. The problem is just starting the developer or runtime. I have not even loaded an app into V11 yet because V11 itself is the problem, not any app.

      If I click on my desktop icon for Alpha 5 V11 Developer it starts Alpha 5 V11 in the C:\Program Files\a5V11 directory.

      Same with the runtime in c:\Program Files\a5V11 Runtime directory.

      I have moved them both outside the Program Files Directory and they still do the same thing.

      But here is what I will do. I will take one of my small apps, put the v11 runtime with it and let you play with it. If you want the build of the V11 Developer I have then let me know.

      I will PM you a link to download the app installer.

        Re: Developer and Runtime both give errors on start-up.

        Had a look and PM'd you.
        This is the message I get.

        Preston.jpg

        I can get at a lot of the application as it is, but if the app isn't the problem - and it runs fine without the Autoexec in V11 Dev, but the messages shown above are what I get in R/t - then your Alpha installation/config seens to be a bit iffy.

        Moving the installation isn't sufficient. You may need to uninstall it and reinstall somewhere else. There are a lot of posts about uninstalling and the Registry so I won't duplicate the process.

        So, to recap;
        Quickquote runs under V10.5 with the Autoexec in place. R/T and Dev.
        Quickquote runs in V11 Dev with Autoexec disabled.
        Quickquote will not run in RT

        I'm strugging here, but I presume you ran a compatability check?
        My V11 is running under XP Service Pack 2 compat settings.
        My Permissions are Full Control.

          Re: Developer and Runtime both give errors on start-up.

          Ted, that is a Aims Registration routine error and is probably because I did a hastily swap to use the v11 runtime for you to test with.

          That is one of Cal's routines and works fine with v11 on my machines but I have the app registered.. It is V11 itself that will not startup without errors unless you run it as administrator.

          Start it up with v10.5 and then click about, send me your computer code and I will send you a registration number. Install the number using v10.5 and then see if you can start it up without errors with v11.

            Preston I ran into this same issue today and I could trace the problem directly to Comodo Defense+. Go to the unrecognized files and move them to trusted files. If you don't have Comodo, check if you have a similar app.

                I have never gotten this resolved. I have Bitdefender on both of my computers. I have tried turning it off and that does not work. I cannot find any settings in Bitdefinder to set anything as trusted. I do have Alpha5.exe set to allow everything in Bitdefender but that does not work either and there is no where to set any other type of file except for .exe files.

                  Preston do a Google search on how to add trusted files in BitDefender.

                    I have tried all of that and it does not help. I am not sure it is even a firewall problem as I have tried totally disabling Bitdefender and it still does not work.

                      Re: Developer and Runtime both give errors on start-up.

                      Preston, you will probably have to remove BitDefender entirely.
                      I had a similar problem with the software I use - AVG.
                      Disabling is not sufficient as it is still resident, and so it should be t prevent easy switching on and off remotely which would compromise your security.
                      Try removing it ( not an easy task) disconnect from the Internet, run Alpha see what happens.
                      If it works (or if it doesn't) reinstall BD.
